Rahab's Sisters meets UpstARTpdx!

On July 29, about twenty-five Rahab's Sisters guests shared their talents and their enthusiasm with volunteers as they gathered with food, companionship, and a new twist: jewelry-making! Volunteers from upstARTpdx, a social enterprise combatting human trafficking through creative, income-generating opportunities, set out materials for anyone who wished to make a necklace, bracelet, or their own creation. In addition to two wonderful soups, bread, salad, and cookies, guests were treated to "a feast of creativity." One volunteer said it perfectly: "Creativity spilling out all over – women busy making beautiful things, relaxed, comparing colors, asking each other’s advice: 'Does this look right? What if I put this here?' and praising one another for their creative gifts. A sweet and warm family time. Plus good food!!!"

UpstARTpdx offers "creative co-ops" in a variety of settings. Currently, all are welcome to drop into Sts. Peter & Paul on Wednesdays in August from 6-8 pm to enjoy community and conversation while making jewelry. In the future, creative co-ops will be held at Rahab's Sisters and other facilities around town and will offer a variety of creative options: sewing, felting, paper-making....the limits are as endless as your creative impulses.
